Even as good wishes continue to stream in after Qatar received the 2022 FIFA World Cup host's mantle from Russia, African ambassadors in Qatar are upbeat that the country measures up to the task to organise a fun-filled and memorable tournament in four years's time.
The top envoys congratulated the Amir His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al Thani and pledged the support of their countries in Qatar's journey towards the 'mission 2022'.
South African Ambassador to Qatar HE Faizel Moosa, whose country hosted the prestigious tournament in 2010, said,"I am confident that Qatar will indeed host a very successful FIFA World Cup in 2022. As the 2010 World Cup host nation, South Africa shares the excitement and determination that is going into the preparations and the eventual hosting of the football's biggest event in the world.
"This is something that was recognised by the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy which culminated into cooperation at various levels towards the successful hosting of the 2022 FIFA World Cup."
Moosa said South Africa would offer support, especially in the field of security.
"As South Africans, we will offer our experience and expertise to Qatar to ensure that it holds the most successful FIFA World Cup come 2022."
Kenyan Ambassador to Qatar HE Galma Mukhe Boru said,"We have no doubt Qatar will host a superb soccer tournament."
Ethiopian Ambassador to Qatar HE Metasebia Tadesse Wordegiorgis said,"I want to share my sincere conviction and firm confidence that Qatar has the required capability and wherewithal to successfully organise the FIFA World Cup 2022 of the highest standard. Once again, I want to assure that the embassy and the Ethiopian community in Qatar will give its unreserved support to the task ahead."
Russian President Vladimir Putin handed over the mantle of World Cup host to the Amir on July 15 in Moscow, where France beat Croatia 4-2 to lift the 2018 edition's title.
