Over 180,000 Jordanians have sent in their applications for jobs in Qatar following Qatar's recent commitment to provide 10,000 jobs for Jordanians and make more investments in the kingdom.
Speaking to Qatar Tribune on Monday, Dr Mousa Ramadan, Ambassador of Goodwill and Founder of the 'Nashama' forum, a gathering of the Jordanians in Qatar, said around 180,000 applications were submitted on the website dedicated by the Qatari authorities for Jordanians to apply.
"Since the website address was announced at around 3pm after the successful meeting between the Jordanian Minister of Labour and his Qatari counterpart, thousands of applications flooded the website which caused a 'crash' and it stopped due to the heavy load," Mousa said.
He praised the Qatari authorities' initiative which aims to support Jordan based on the deep-rooted relations between the two nations.
He added that the job openings are in all specialisations including education, health, engineering and even the private sector.
"Once an applicant submits his application through the website, he is given a reference number and the website is run under the supervision of the Labours Department in Qatar only which will select the applicants according to the job openings available now," Mousa clarified.
He assured that some Jordanians had been already interviewed successfully and arrived in Qatar to work for the Ministry of Education and Higher Education and there are more to come soon.
"The 10,000 jobs offered will be distributed in several phases and this might be along one year to recruit the number announced," he added.
He urged anyone who wishes to apply to stick to the official website announced by the Qatari authorities and not be defrauded by some fake websites which claim involvement in the recruitment process.
According to him, some websites emerged recently and claimed recruitment in Qatar for a fee.
Other Jordanians, who are living and working in Qatar, justified the huge turnout by Jordanian applicants on the recruitment website because Qatar is a model environment for them to work and live in.
Ayman Rebhi, a Jordanian expatriate in Doha, said because people have trust and faith in the Qatari government, Qatar is a good destination for them to work and the market environment is attractive.
He added that this will also attract more Qatari investors into the local markets in Jordan as they are also now receiving all support and facilitation by the authorities there to start businesses, stressing that the culture between Qataris and Jordanians is very mutual.
