Representatives of around 20 Filipino community groups will celebrate the milestone of their successful collaboration known as Bayanihan Qatar with a launching event to be held at Governor's Westbay Suites and Residences on Friday.
The formal launch of the federation will be held in the presence of Philippine Embassy Doha and Philippine Overseas Labour Office (POLO) Doha officials and witnessed by partner community organisations.
Bayanihan Qatar is comprised of groups whose membership comprises mainly of household service workers and construction workers. Since being formed more than a year ago, the organisation has been at the forefront of many outreach initiatives in the community including rendering support to the programmes of the Embassy and the host country.
"More than a year ago, about 20 Filipino community groups jointly pursued various programmes and projects in the service of our members and the Filipino community with particular attention for our compatriots that are in need. Together we achieved a lot; we have learned a lot. But much is yet to be achieved and learned. We now have decided to form ourselves as a federation, guided with the constitution and laws that define our aspirations, objectives and organisational structures and policies. We do so in the belief that it will raise the level of our organisation," read a statement of Bayanihan Qatar.
The gathering will feature a presentation of proposed Bayanihan Qatar constitution and its priority action and programmes for the next two years. Similarly, an election and induction of the first batch of office-bearers of the federation will be held.
Among the Bayanihan Qatar member groups that are expected to take part in the event are Republika Supremo International, Buklod ng Bayanihang Filipino sa Qatar, The Filipino Community, Qatar-Pilipino Helping Hand, Bayanihan ng Manggagawa sa Konstruksyon sa Qatar, OFW Kabisig, HERO-Qatar and Flickers Qatar.
