The F-15QA fighter aircraft being readied for Qatar are the most sophisticated ones with most modern equipment and the ability to fly at an unprecedented height of up to 65,000 feet, according to Brigadier General (pilot) Issa bin Rashid al Mohannadi, project officer for F-15.
The Qatari F-15s have advanced radars and sophisticated screens, and are designed to carry larger quantities of weapons. They have two seats -- one for the pilot and the other for the weapons officer -- and have the ability to stay longer in the air.
"It is an interceptor aircraft, which is fast and can fly at high altitudes without relying on escorts. It is one of the most advanced fighter planes of the 20th century which helps to gain aerial superiority over the battlefield. Since it is a long-range strategic aircraft, it can reach deep inside the enemy territory and hit strategic targets behind enemy lines. Besides, it has a unique screen, which has the same specifications and qualities as F-35 aircraft, and it relies on the most sophisticated radar ever produced," Brigadier General Mohannadi said.
These are developed from the F-15 warplanes that have proven their worthiness in several combats, by adding new combat capabilities and technology to make them more capable.
"The aircraft deal is a testament to the deep strategic relations between Qatar and the US for maintaining security and world peace, and for combating all forms of terrorism regionally and globally. This is evident from the fact that we requested 36 aircraft and US Congress agreed to the possibility of giving us 72 aircraft with the same specifications and quality," he said.
"Under the wise leadership of the Amir His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al Thani, Commander-in-Chief of the Qatari Armed Forces, the State of Qatar is keen to acquire such modern aircraft to protect its land and airspace, as well as its national interests. We are keen on investing in the Qatari citizens and integrating them in the air force as pilots. Qatar Air Force College is playing a pivotal role in this regard," he said.
"Under the agreement with the US government, Qatari cadres will be trained by experts from the US Air Force for five years. We are ready to make this national strategic project a success and serve the homeland under the wise leadership of HH the Amir," Brigadier General Mohannadi added.
