Philippine Society of Safety Professionals-Qatar (PSSP-Qatar) will be celebrating the milestones the group has achieved in the past six years and the invaluable contributions of Filipino safety professionals in various industries at a function to be held at Holiday Inn Hotel on September 7.
The event with the theme"Building Trust for Excellent Teamwork to HSE" will be led by PSSP-Qatar roster of office-bearers headed by its president Joel Mejia and Vice President Arabelle Flores together with Board of Directors which include Ariel Garcia, Celso Santos Jr, Edwin Remolona and Jose Torzar Jr.
PSSP-Qatar is a non-profit, non-political and non-sectarian organisation founded in 2012. It is affiliated to PSSP Incorporated in the Philippines as accredited Safety Training Organization from Bureau of Working Condition, a staff bureau of the Philippine Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), and affiliated as founding member of International HSE Council (IHSEC).
According to Mejia, the group currently has 355 members--162 bona fide members and 93 others who are non-safety professionals.
"The organisation's mission is to reach out to and unite all Filipino safety professionals working in Qatar and the Gulf countries. The Society embodies the principles and objectives which aim to promote high standards of occupational safety and environmental health (OHS&E), a culture based on the local and international regulations and collaboration with the host country's government and other local and international institution for the OHS&E administration and enforcement. It alsoenhances the capabilities of its members in order to attain its competency in the field and share best practices to enhance members' awareness on current issues," he added.
PSSP-Qatar's previous activities and programmes for its members included conducting internal trainings on Environmental Health & Safety Essential Course (EHSEC) composed of thirteen modules and conducted every Friday, arranging and supporting external trainings such as firefighting safety, standard first-aid course, food safety and confined space entry, among others.
In terms of community service, the organisation is actively supporting community and Embassy-led events, coordinates with Philippine Overseas Labor Office (POLO) in Doha to extend assistance to Filipinos in need and arrange relief goods for Filipinos affected by calamities such as fire and typhoon both in Qatar and the Philippines.
The PSSP Qatar leadership also includes Membership Committee Chairman Elwin Cloves, Ways and Means / Logistics Chairman Carlo Inigo, Social Services Committee Chairman Francisco Mueda, Finance Committee Chairman Timothy James Tan, Sports and Recreation Committee Chairman Alvin Datu, Ethics Committee Chairman Rupselle Wayne Zaraspe, Education and Trainings Committee Chairman Ritchie Sanchez, Special Projects Committee Chairman Jaime Enriquez and Communications Committee Chairman Elizardo Mercado.
