IN the framework of the traffic awareness campaign, the Traffic Patrols and Investigation Department of the Ministry of Interior (MoI), in coordination with the Internal Security Force 'Lekhwiya' and with support from the Services Affairs Department at the Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME), launched a drive to monitor and remove abandoned vehicles from different streets of Qatar recently.
In the first leg of the campaign, the joint team of inspectors removed a number of light and heavy vehicles abandoned on streets 1 to 15 of the Industrial Area in violation of traffic and municipal laws.
The campaign seeks to ensure complete removal of abandoned vehicles from streets to facilitate smooth traffic movement across the country, as well as to keep the beauty of streets intact.
The General Directorate of Traffic and Lekhwiya have so far, removed 159 vehicles as part of the campaign, in addition to 16 trucks. Besides, a total of 655 vehicles have been booked for violations.
Prior to removal of abandoned vehicles, all the required infrastructure works on the streets, such as lighting and pavement were completed. The abandoned vehicles on these streets were a major obstacle to smooth traffic flow.
Lt Col Jaber al Kubaisi, assistant director of the Patrol and Investigation Department has directed owners of shops and garages to refrain from leaving vehicles on the streets and places that are not intended for parking, adding that legal action will be taken against violators.
Lt Col Kubaisi stressed that the campaign will continue with round the clock patrolling in Industrial Area.
For his part, Majid Zafer al Hajri, head of Support Services at the Ministry of Municipality and Environment, pointed out that all the garages located on streets 1 to 15 have been asked to comply with cleanliness and ensure that no vehicles are left in front of the garages and shops in violation of the law.
Moreover, the General Directorate of Traffic and the Ministry of Municipality and Environment have urged the owners of the abandoned vehicles and trucks to remove them from the road or to transport them to the designated places.
