Buying new clothes in preparation for Eid Al Adha has been a common tradition in the Qatari community and this year is no exception. The sale of Arabian outfits has peaked as people gear up to celebrate Eid Al Adha from Tuesday.
The demand for all traditional attires, including abayas, has increased. This year, designers and shops are displaying special Eid collections of abayas to lure customers.
Abaya is one of the most popular garments for ladies. A loose robe-like overgarment, abaya comes in many designs and colours and is worn daily and on special occasions as well.
Speaking to Qatar Tribune, Hessa al Hamrani, Qatari designer and owner of Shaden Abayas, said that her collections are prepared depending on the different seasons and occasions and recently, her team had been preparing the launch of the Eid collection.
She added:"While designing this upcoming collection, the aspects taken into account included a variety in cuts and designs and the use of crystals with the suitable fabrics for the season."
The designer noted that during Eid Al Adha, the demand for abayas is usually higher than other outfits, such as dresses and suits. She added that for each collection, she picks a certain theme that has an underlying story which attracts the customers' attention.
A sales attendant at an abaya shop in Doha also said that the demand increases significantly for abayas during special occasions such as Eid Al Adha. She noted that during this season, the shop introduces a greater variety of designs to cater to the different tastes and ages of its customers.
"During the recent years, younger ladies have been leaning towards lighter colours of abayas that stand out especially during Eid with simple designs and modern cuts," she explained.
