HIGHLIGHTING its commitment to the furtherance of a vibrant literary Islamic culture in Qatar, Muhammad Bin Hamad Al Thani Center for Muslim Contribution to Civilization (CMCC), part of Hamad Bin Khalifa University's (HBKU) College of Islamic Studies (CIS), is set to participate at the 29th edition of the Doha International Book Fair this year.
The center's exhibit marks the University's fifth participation and underlines its positive stance towards providing access to unique scholarly publications, translated from Arabic to English, in line with its directive for the creation of a solid knowledge-based economy.
The book fair, which will take place from November 29 to December 5 at the Doha Exhibition and Convention Center (DECC), is expected to attract hundreds of reputable publishing houses from nearly 30 countries.
As HBKU's oldest college, CIS has already established a long-standing tradition of contributing to a rich scholarly discourse within the community.
Commenting on the significance of literature as part of the educational framework, Director of CMCC Dr Aisha Yousef al Mannai said:"Throughout their academic journey, students are bound to experience transformational development as they immerse themselves in the scholarly exploration of narrative. In their essence, books serve as a gateway for a world of thought and knowledge exchange, establishing them as crucial components of any researcher's toolkit."
"Together, we aim to conquer the unknown and promote the acquisition of knowledge through the spread of the written word. In the end, literature can eradicate barriers to correct understanding, culture, geography and even language. Particularly within Qatar's diverse community, this inclusive approach can serve to disseminate information to all members of the public."
Taking its commitment to the distribution of publications even further, HBKU is also home to a pioneering in-house publishing house - HBKU Press. As such, CIS' proactive exhibit fosters an interactive exchange between the college's research outputs and the wider community, who gain valuable insights into the academic feats in the realm of scientific discovery and innovation for Qatar.
