THE Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) recently organised, in collaboration with World Health Organization (WHO), a workshop and simulation exercise to review and update the national pandemic influenza plan, assess roles and responsibilities, understand national preparedness needs and ensure the participation of all health sectors in the plan according to best practices and the WHO guidelines.
The workshop was attended by 60 stakeholders and representatives from governmental and private health sectors in Qatar: Ministry of Public Health, Primary Health Care Corporation, Hamad Medical Corporation, Sidra Medical and Research Center, Qatar Petroleum, Qatar Red Crescent Society, Animal Health from Ministry of Municipality and Environment, Hamad International Airport, Qatar Airways and the private sector.
The workshop was conducted by Dr Tamara Curtin Niemi, visiting consultant from the WHO, and the working group of Health Protection and Communicable Diseases Control at the MoPH.
Three scenarios and simulation exercises were performed on the hypothesis of cases of emerging viruses or outbreaks, how to deal with them, how to ensure the participation and proper response of stake holders, and national focal points from all health sectors, specifically to ensure readiness for the FIFA 2022 World Cup.
