Al Sailiya completed a resounding comeback as coach Sami Trabelsi's men humbled Al Ahli 4-2 at the Al Ahli Stadium on Friday, while a brace from Yannick Sagbo for Umm Salal condemned Al Kharaitiyat to the bottom of the table without a point this season.
Meshaal Abdulla grabbed a brace for Al Ahli, but the Peregrines fought back to seal a convincing win which sees them move atop the QNB Stars League table with a match still in hand.
Meshaal scored with a volley from a ball over the top by the enterprising Mohsine Moutouali early in the second half. The striker who replaced Ali Ferydoun in the starting line up had missed several chances in the first half.
But Al Sailiya equalised through skipper Majdi Siddiq from a fabulous free kick just past the hour mark.
Meshaal grabbed his second with a cool dink over Saoud Mubarak after Moutouali's brilliant pass had sent the striker on his way.
A controversial penalty presented a lifeline for Trabelsi's men as Abdulqadir Ilyas clearly went down under minimal contact from Mohammed Tresor. The striker however held his nerves, sending Yazan Naim the wrong way.
Sailiya took the lead for the first time as a tiring Al Ahli failed to clear the area as the ball fell to Abdulkarim Salem with just two minutes left. The midfielder's shot took a deflection off Mohammed Khanzadeh, leaving Naim helpless in goal.
Rachid Tiberkanine got his name on the score sheet with seconds left in added time. The former Kharaitiyat hit man got in front of his marker as he received a pass from Ilyas. Tiberkanine's first touch was a thing of beauty, lofting the ball to set him up for a volley past the hapless Naim.
In the late match of the day, Sagbo scored a brilliant winner as Umm Salal beat Al Kharaitiyat 2-1.
Al Kharaitiyat scored first as Mohammed Razaq showed good instincts to latch on to latch on to a pass in the box before firing home from close range.
Despite enjoying possession, Kharaitiyat failed to make anything meaningful and Sagbo drew level for Umm Salal from the penalty spot after Abdrahman Mahamet was adjudged to have handled the ball in the danger area.
Sagbo got his second four minutes later with a superb display of skill. The big striker in his fourth season with Umm Salal sent a delicate lob with his back turned to goal past the onrushing Ahmed Sufyan as the Orange Fortress completed their first back-to-back win of the season.
