The Supreme Court on Monday dismissed a petition seeking disqualification of Prime Minister Imran Khan for not being sadiq (truthful) and ameen (righteous) under the Constitution.
The petition was filed by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Daniyal Chaudhry alleging that the premier had not disclosed details of his daughter Tyrian White in his 2013 nomination papers. Filed in 2017, the petition was fixed for hearing on September 24.
Chief Justice Saqib Nisar questioned whether Chaudhry would withdraw the petition or the court should pass an order for the same. The PML-N leader said the petition was infructuous and he would approach the high courts as similar cases are pending in those courts."No one will stop you from approaching the high courts," Justice Ijazul Ahsan remarked and the bench then dismissed the petition as withdrawn.
The petition stated that the premier does not fulfil Article 62 and 63 of the Constitution, and hence should be disqualified for not being Sadiq and Ameen.
On December 15, 2017, the apex court found Imran to be 'honest' but disqualified Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf general secretary Jahangir Tareen. Neither the PTI nor the prosecuting PML-N welcomed judgment.
