Serie A leaders Juventus won 2-0 against Frosinone thanks to late goals from Cristiano Ronaldo and Federico Bernardeschi on Sunday, failing to impress as they clinched a fifth successive win to stay three points clear of Napoli.
Lorenzo Insigne scored a brace as Napoli won 3-1 earlier at Torino to briefly draw level with Juventus at 12 points, who are now at 15.
In Frosinone, a Ronaldo drive that cleared on the goal line was the only first-half chance from the lacklustre Bianconeri as they produced slow and fruitless pressing against the deep-sitting hosts.
After the break, the Portuguese star botched a shot inside the box and was denied by Marco Sportiello as he flicked his heel before finally firing home a loose ball in the 81st minute.
Substitute Bernardeschi scored in injury time to finish a counter-attack.
"We expected a game like this," Juve coach Massimiliano Allegri said.
"(Frosinone) lost 5-0 to Sampdoria (last weekend) and we came from a (Champions League) game (won 2-0 at Valencia Wednesday) playing with 10 men.
"The boys were clever and patient tonight and after many drives and crosses they found the net. We have a clash with Napoli next week and we must get there at least with a three-point lead."
Insigne punished the Turin hosts for an early defensive blunder and Simone Verdi struck against his former side after a one-two with Dries Mertens for 2-0.
Il Toro pulled one back from an Andrea Belotti penalty after the break before Insigne fired home on the rebound after Jose Callejon hit the post. Insigne now has four goals in the league.
"We have a new coach (Carlo Ancelotti), but what matters is the technical ability of players, more than schemes and tactics," Insigne said."Now our fans want us to win at Juve Saturday, but we must first think about Wednesday's game [at home to Parma]."
"Let's remember that last season we won at [Turin's] Allianz Stadium, but then we finished second. So let's stay focussed game after game."
Elsewhere, Roma crashed 2-0 at Bologna and remained rooted on five points alongside Torino. Bologna have four after their first win.
Ciro Immobile struck twice as Lazio improved to nine points with a 4-1 over Genoa, who had Polish striker Krzysztof Piatek on target for a top-scorer tally of five goals; and Udinese won 2-0 at Chievo.
AC Milan and Atalanta drew 2-2 in a pulsating regional derby as Emiliano Rigoni tapped in a last-gasp equalizer for the Bergamo guests.
Gonzalo Higuain volleyed home an early Suso cross and Atalanta's captain Alejandro Gomez levelled on 54. Giacomo Bonaventura netted Milan's second seven minutes later but Rigoni salvaged a point for Atalanta one minute into stoppage time after Duvan Zapata's saved drive.
Milan have a game in hand as they sit on five points with Atalanta, Roma, Torino and Cagliari.
On Saturday, Fiorentina crushed Spal 3-0 as Inter won 1-0 at Sampdoria and Parma beat Cagliari 2-0. Sassuolo won 3-1 against Empoli Friday.
