Qatar's former world No. 6 Mohsen Bukshaisha had a superb start to his Asian 6Reds 2018 quarter-final match against Cheung Ka Wai in Doha but the Hong Kong player bounced back immediately and went to win the match 6-1 on Monday.
Abushaikha, ranked second behind Cheung after topping the group, wrested the opening frame. However, Cheung struck back immediately and got better with each frame in his 17-30, 32-7, 38-25, 47-9, 36-8, 36-34, 47-0 victory.
The Hong Kong player twice posted breaks of 47 to cap his fine showing.
arlier, Qatar's another player Ahmed Saif lost his pre-quarter-final match Hong Kong's Fung Kwok Wai 3-6.
Fung later met Thai rival Thnawat Tirapongpaiboon in the quarter-final match-up but failed to get a spot in the semi-finals losing 3-6 to Thailand's Thanawat Tirapongpaiboon.
The Thai had a bright start and forged 3-0 ahead. Fung staged a fine recovery and came within a frame of drawing level. Tirapongpaiboon won the next two frames. Though the Hong Kong player managed to cut down the margin but he could not stop the Thai from winning the clash 41-0 54-19, 38-14, 12-30, 6-40, 39-6, 56-16, 31-33, 66-0.
Tirapongpaiboon faces a difficult match against Pakistan's former world team champion Babar Masih, who edged Afghanistan's Saleh Mohammadi in a thrilling finish 6-4.
Both Mohammadi and Masih won alternate frames to be tied 3-3. At this stage, Masih drew all his experience and pieced up a brilliant 71 break and followed it up winning the next frame to go 5-3 up.
Under pressure, Mohammadi could win only one frame, leaving Masih to wrap it up with a 30-7, 17-46, 56-0, 26-47, 36-29, 71-0, 63-0, 9-36, 45-0 victory.
Masih has a chance to feature in an all-Pakistani final as teammate and ex-world champion Mohammad Bilal entered the semi-finals from other half after getting the better of Iranian Amir Sarkhosh 6-5 in another pulsating clash.
First, it was Bilal who hit the front by going 2-0 up. Sarkhosh potted calmly and craftily to build up a commanding 4-2 lead. The Pakistani player then displayed his fighting qualities to level the game 4-4.
Sarkhosh gained another chance to put pressure on the rival. Bilal against staged a superb recovery through his match-high 71 break and seal his classic win at 40-4, 37-25, 0-56, 10-49, 34-35, 30-8, 39-0, 2-38, 71-0, 48-19.
