QATAR'S Ambassador to Peru HE Ali bin Hamad al Sulaiti has described the Amir His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al Thani's visit to Latin America as a precious opportunity to boost relations between Qatar and the countries in South America.
"After the successful visit of Father Amir HH Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al Thani in 2013 when several agreements were signed, this visit by the Amir HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al Thani will see signing of more agreements at several levels of cooperation," Sulaiti said.
Commenting on the bilateral relations with Lima, Sulaiti said that the relations started in 1989 when Qatar became the first in the region to start diplomatic ties with Peru and later opened an embassy in Lima in 2013 which resulted in several political and commercial agreements between the two countries.
The agreements included a memorandum of understanding on creating a consultation mechanism between the two countries in the political field as well as cooperation in education, commerce, mining, sports, media, economy, legal and cultural fields.
HH the Amir is expected to visit several countries in Latin America to discuss with their presidents and senior officials ways of promoting the bilateral relations and mutual cooperation in all fields.
Both countries had supported each other on the international level through their candidates for titles in UN organisations.
According to the Embassy of Qatar in Lima, Peru sees Qatar as a model country in terms of international mediation through many initiatives by Doha on conflict resolutions. Peru also welcomes Qatari investors and provides a suitable investment environment for them. Besides, it had warmly welcomed the Qatar's national carrier Qatar Airways, which had started operating in Lima.
Qatar and Peru share many mutual visions on several international cases such as the constant Israeli aggression on Palestinians and the war in Syria and Yemen.
