THE Amir His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al Thani and President of Ecuador Lenin Moreno held an official session of talks at 'Carondelet Palace' (presidential palace) in the capital Quito on Monday evening and discussed ways to boost and further develop prospects of bilateral relations between the two friendly countries in various fields, especially economy, trade and tourism.
At the beginning of the meeting, the president welcomed HH the Amir and the accompanying delegation, noting the warm welcome by the Ecuadorian people to His Highness, and expressed the hope that this visit would contribute to deepening of ties between the two friendly countries, enhancing partnership and investment.
Moreno said that the meeting with HH the Amir dealt with ways of enhancing cooperation in fields of common interest, especially in the areas of energy, infrastructure and other fields.
For his part, HH the Amir thanked the president and the Ecuadorian people for their hospitality and warm reception.
His Highness said that the relationship between Qatar and Ecuador is solid and strong, stressing that this visit will further strengthen the ties, especially in the economic and trade fields as well as in other domains.
HH the Amir expressed Qatar's confidence in the Ecuadorian economy and the investment climate, and the outcome of the technical meetings in this field. HH the Amir added that Qatar's investments are for future generations of the country. HH the Amir also praised Ecuador's just positions on issues facing the Arab world.
The expanded talks dealt with ways of strengthening cooperation between the two countries in political, economic and social fields, where the president and HH the Amir affirmed their keenness to promote political dialogue between the two countries, in addition to the effective cooperation in energy, tourism, infrastructure, environmental protection, youth and sports sectors.
HH the Amir also discussed ways of activating the agreements and memoranda of understanding (MoUs) signed between the two sides in order to meet the aspirations of the two friendly peoples.
In the regional and international fields, the latest developments were discussed where HH the Amir and the president stressed the importance of continuing close coordination on common issues at multilateral organisations and international forums such as the United Nations and the Group of 77.
On the Middle East issues, the president praised Qatar's ways of handling of the Gulf crisis, stressing the need for resolving it through dialogue and diplomatic means. He also appreciated Qatar's firm stance on the Palestinian issue.
At the end of the talks, HH the Amir invited the Ecuadorian president to visit Qatar and the president welcomed the invitation.
The meeting was attended by the members of the official delegation accompanying HH the Amir.
On the Ecuadorian side, it was attended by a number of ministers and senior officials.
