AMBASSADOR of the Republic of Paraguay to Qatar HE Angel Ramon Barchini said the upcoming first state visit of the Amir His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al Thani to his country will further strengthen the bilateral relations between Qatar and Paraguay as well as open new opportunities beneficial for both the nations.
In an interview with Qatar Tribune recently, the Ambassador said during the high-profile visit, HH the Amir will meet with the head of the three government branches of Paraguay “ executive, legislative and judiciary. He added that several agreements are expected to be signed, such as, in the areas of education, health, legal and air services “ and the exemption of visas between the two countries which the official stressed as the most important.
œThis would be the first visit of HH the Amir to the Republic of Paraguay which means something very important for the government of Paraguay and the people of Paraguay. It is important to remember the official visit to Paraguay made by the Father Amir His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al Thani in 2010. As a result of the visit, diplomatic representations have been opened for both countries, the trade balance has increased and there has been positive support in bilateral and multilateral fields, ? the Ambassador said.
Ambassador Barchini also emphasised that the new leadership of Paraguay under President Mario Abdo Benitez who assumed office on August 15 “ on the same day the National Congress was sworn in “ is committed to opening new markets with special attention in the Middle East and Asian countries.
He said it is noteworthy that the Embassy of Paraguay in Qatar is the only diplomatic representation in the GCC. Similarly, the Embassy of Qatar in Paraguay is the only representation of the Gulf countries. The Embassy of Qatar opened in Asuncion, the capital and largest city of Paraguay, in 2012, which began the first steps in establishing relations between the two countries. Paraguay's resident embassy in Doha, and the only one in the Gulf, opened in 2014.
HE Barchini added: œFor Paraguay, it is important to open new markets in Qatar, as well as in the region, which could be the
gateway to the entire Asian continent. It will also continue to strengthen political, commercial ties and relations in tourism. ?
