National Human Rights Committee (NHRC) Chairman Dr Ali bin Smaikh al Marri demanded Saudi Arabia to immediately reveal the whereabouts of the four Qatari nationals who are the victims of enforced disappearance and arbitrary detention by the Saudi authorities.
The NHRC chief also called for sending a UN fact-finding mission to know the fate of the three Qatari victims of enforced disappearance and of another citizen who was arbitrarily detained, saying Saudi authorities are fully responsible for their safety.
Their fate is unknown since they were arbitrarily and unfairly detained by the Saudi authorities, Dr Marri said.
He also urged the Working Group on Arbitrary Detention and the Working Group on Enforced Disappearance to conduct a joint field visit to Saudi Arabia to find details about the four Qatari nationals.
In press statements issued during his visit to the UK, Dr Marri underlined that the NHRC has"serious concerns" about the fate of the Qatari nationals held in Saudi Arabia. He described the Saudi actions as shameful and inhumane, which will leave psychological effects on future generations.
So far, the NHRC and the families of the missing Qatari nationals don't know their whereabouts and are not even able to communicate with them, he said.
Dr Marri praised the cooperation of the international organisations with the NHRC, urging them to exert more pressure on Saudi for the release of the Qatari nationals before it is too late.
"The NHRC has provided international organisations and the UN with all information about the missing and detained Qatari citizens in Saudi Arabia," Dr Marri said, adding that the committee is in constant contact with the two working groups.
He renewed his call to the international community to put more pressure on Saudi Arabia to compel it to respect international laws and reveal the fate of the Qatari citizens as well as to release them immediately.
