Notwithstanding the ongoing economic blockade, more than 20 international car manufacturers are revving up for the eighth edition of Qatar Motor Show slated to begin in Doha on Wednesday.
The biennial event will see a number of latest car models, launches and a lot of unveilings from top car manufacturers in the world, Elan Chief Operating Officer Ahmed al Mulla told Qatar Tribune on the sidelines of a pre-show reception.
Despite the unjust seize imposed on Qatar, Mulla said, all top international car manufacturers are participating in the show affirming their bullishness in Qatar's auto sector.
To be held under the patronage of the Prime Minister and Minister of Interior HE Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al Thani, the motor show will also witness latest models of electric car brands.
"The buzzword at the auto expo in all likelihood will be electric. As many as four international car manufacturers including Bugatti, BMW and Toyota will showcase their latest electric car innovations during the event," Mulla said.
Mulla also revealed that five new car manufacturers will take part in the show this time.
The new car manufacturers and models, he said, are expected to attract huge crowds on the occasion, he said.
"The motor show will bring together the most notable international car makers and trade professionals on a single platform. The event is a spectacular showcase of the latest sport, luxury and mid-range cars. The outdoor events will be equally exciting as the finest young automotive enthusiasts will showcase their skills for the exuberant audiences," he said.
In a bid to attract a large number of vintage car lovers, Mulla said, the area for displaying vintage cars has also been increased compared with the previous edition.
"We will see many vintage cars this year. There will be also a bigger display area for car accessories this time," he said.
QTA Exhibitions Director Ahmed al Obaidli said the participation of major car manufacturers in the auto show is quite encouraging.
"It will be a big boost to Qatar's tourism sector as a number of international visitors are expected to witness latest car launches during the show," he said.
"The theme of the 8th edition will be 'Driving to Innovation'. As the name suggests, it will help bring car enthusiasts to Qatar to see latest trends and technologies from the global automotive scene," he said.
