The Ugandan Community in Qatar (UGACOQ) has recently launched a women's empowerment programme for women in Qatar. The programme was unveiled during the Ugandan Independence Day celebrations last Friday.
UGACOQ Secretary Martha Anyait, who has been working for women's empowerment, said the plan is to help uplift women especially from Africa."The aim of the programme is to help women hone their talents because there are many women who have talents but don't have a platform to showcase them owing to limited resources."
She said that UGACOQ Women empowerment programme, if implemented effectively, will be a vehicle for ending poverty among women in society."UGACOQ Women empowerment programme vows to teach women how to use their talent and skills to develop themselves. We will also teach women how to start businesses of their own with little savings."
Anyait said that the programme can help women build peaceful societies and women can become free to pursue a path independently and make decisions. When a woman is fully recognised and empowered, she said, so is the male counterpart and therefore what they represent together is fully expressed.
"Women empowerment will help restore women's status and dignity and through this UGACOQ will provide them with a compatible atmosphere and all possible facilities to smoothen progress and development, which will help them reach their full potential."
She said that a series of activities will take place in relation to the programme.
Currently the programme is under UGACOQ but it will become an independent programme soon, she believes."We want to inspire one another and engage prominent women to support each other. Women need a platform where they can raise their issues."
