Highlighting the life and teachings of Mahatma Gandhi, who is revered as the father of the nation of India, a two-week painting exhibition opened at Katara Cultural Village on Tuesday to mark his 150th birth anniversary.
The opening ceremony of the exhibition titled 'Experiment with Truth' was attended by General Manager of Cultural Village Foundation-Katara Dr Khalid bin Ibrahim al Sulaiti, Indian Ambassador HE P Kumaran along with diplomats and Indian community members. In his opening remarks, the Indian ambassador said the exhibition highlights two vital principles that Mahatma Gandhi always stood for- truth and non-violence- which are still relevant.
A total of 77 paintings exhibited by members of Visual Artists Forum (India-Qatar) as well as teachers of different Indian Schools and students portray the life and role of the Mahatma in India's struggle for independence through the use of meaningful shades and materials on canvas.
Speaking to Qatar Tribune, the General Manager of Katara, Dr Khalid bin Ibrahim al Sulaiti said,"The exhibition describes Ghandhiji's life, mission and vision and how he became the father of the nation in India. The paintings also depict Gandhiji's personality through details of his behaviour and interaction with world political leaders and his own people."
Vice President of Indian Cultural Centre AP Manikantan said,"The exhibition conveys the messages of Mahatma Gandhi, which are more relevant today than ever globally. Gandhiji still inspires millions of people all over the world."
A total of 65 artists participated in the exhibition being held in Building No 19 and 22, from 10 am to 10 pm. The exhibition will continue until October 31.
