THE 139th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) announced that it will hold its 140th session in the State of Qatar from April 6 to 10, 2019.
Speaker of the Advisory Council HE Ahmed bin Abdullah bin Zaid al Mahmoud welcomed, in his speech delivered at the closing session on Thursday evening, the participants in the 140th IPU assembly and its related meetings in the State of Qatar.
He also welcomed the speakers and delegations of the world parliaments to their next meeting. He called on all of them to take part in the event and learn about the great developments and achievements witnessed by the State of Qatar under the leadership of the Amir HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al Thani and to see the good and noble people of Qatar and their love for peace, stability and good for all.
In his speech, al Mahmoud stressed Qatar's readiness and confidence in the success of the upcoming conference in Doha for the good of countries and peoples.
He said that Qatar will cooperate with IPU's President and Secretary-General to prepare for the upcoming assembly and its related meetings.
At the conclusion of its work, the IPU meeting adopted a number of recommendations and the final document, all emphasising the role of the parliamentary leadership in promoting peace and development in an era of innovation and technological change as well as stressing the need to strengthen parliamentary cooperation among the member states in the area of migration, in the light of the adoption of the Global Compact on Safe, Regular and Orderly Migration. It also adopted the reports of the Committee on Peace and International Security, the Committee on Sustainable Development, Finance and Trade, the Committee on United Nations Affairs and other issues on the agenda.
