Qatar's weather varies from sweltering summer heat to chilly winter cold every year. As a result, all-weather greenhouse farming has been gaining popularity among farmers in the country.
With such diverse climates, the advantage of a controlled environment for crop cultivation is clear, and vegetable farmers are now looking for the optimum results from greenhouse farming.
During 2010-2018, greenhouse areas in the country have increased from about 120 to 300 hectares. It shows that up to 80 percent of the total cultivated area of Qatari farms is being dedicated to greenhouse systems.
To achieve the best results from greenhouse farming, it is important to use the most advanced equipment and materials which can withstand a wide range of temperatures.
"Agricultural buildings are no exception, and our new Polycarbonate sheet produced by Koscon is the ideal choice for greenhouses," said Cagri Kurbal, CEO of architectural materials company Merger Mimari.
"With UV stability and weathering resistance, it can be used in a wide range of temperatures and conditions. The sheet is also designed to reduce the percentage of infrared rays that pass through, enabling significant control of inside temperatures," Kurbal said.
As the only company in the world to produce sheets with widths up to 2,022 mm, Koscon also treats the inside of the sheets to be condensation- and dew-resistant to stop moisture from dripping down and harm crops. Polycarbonate sheet is lightweight for easy transportation, and has shorter installation time and lower installations costs.
Polycarbonate is the ideal material for greenhouses, according to Kurbal. He said:"We offer Macrolux Rooflite polycarbonate sheets, providing the optimum solution that Koscon specifically developed for agricultural use."
