The Amir His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al Thani will take part in the first Paris Peace Forum on the invitation of the French government.
Slated to begin on November 11, the three-day forum is part of the drive by French President Emmanuel Macron to reaffirm the importance of multilateralism and collective action in responding to current global challenges.
According to sources, the Amir will be in Paris on Sunday to take part in the inaugural ceremony of the forum that aims to achieve peace through better global governance and to reduce international tensions through cooperation between states to face cross-boundary challenges, collective management of global common goods, and better regulation of the internet and communications.
In response to the rising tensions in today's world, the forum is designed to be the annual meeting for projects, ideas and initiatives which effectively contribute to better international cooperation on key global issues, fairer and more equitable globalisation, and a more effective multilateral system.
Several heads of state and government, representatives of major international organisations and stakeholders from civil society are expected to be among the thousands of participants. Some 119 projects will be presented at the event.
According to sources, the Amir will also participate in the Internet Governance Forum (IGF) to be held at the UNESCO headquarters in Paris.
A major event on the global governance of the Internet, the 13th edition of IGF, is being organised by the French government under the auspices of the United Nations.
A global forum for multi-stakeholder dialogue on all public policy issues related to the Internet, the three-day IGF will begin on November 12.
The forum, under the theme 'Internet of Trust', will discuss proposed regulatory frameworks, global trends, potential risks, and good and bad practices which have been adopted or are under discussion.
The French president will be present at the forum, which is one of a series of major international events to be held at Paris focusing on digital technology, along with the Paris Peace Forum and the GovTech Summit.
