TUI cruise ship Mein Schiff 4 docked at Doha Port, Qatar's gateway to marine tourism, on Thursday marking the luxurious vessel's maiden call to Qatar. The ship is carrying more than 2,522 passengers and 1,006 crew.
Mwani Qatar, in coordination with the authorities concerned, provided all facilities to passengers, ensuring their easy and safe entry to Qatar and enabling them to undertake tours in the shortest time following the ship's anchoring on the quayside.
Mwani Qatar's CEO Capt. Abdulla al Khanji and German Ambassador to Qatar HE Hans-Udo Muzel received the passengers.
This is Mein Schiff 4's first of 10 calls scheduled for the 2018-19 cruise season, which runs until May 2019.
Mwani Qatar CEO Capt. Abdulla al Khanji said:"Receiving one of the world's largest cruise ships at Doha Port reflects the confidence that the port has gained among the world's cruise ship operators and proves its ability to promote the maritime tourism industry in Qatar in line with the Ministry of Transport and Communications' strategic plan."
"Doha Port is now in redevelopment mode and will be a future hub port for cruise ships and luxury yachts of all sizes. Once complete, the port will be ready to host multiple mega ships at the same time," Khanji said.
The port's transformation into a major cruise port in the region will bring significant economic returns to companies, hotels, restaurants, retail, services and tourist attractions in Qatar.
German Ambassador Muzel said:"It is my great pleasure to join all of you in welcoming the arrival of Mein Schiff 4 for its first call to the Doha Port in the winter season of 2018-19. This marks an important milestone in the development of German-Qatari relations in the field of tourism."
"Mein Schiff 4, one of the flag ships of TUI cruises, is famous for being a wellness ship where everybody, from families with children to sports enthusiasts, spends unforgettable vacations. I am delighted that this signature cruise vessel, one of the most luxurious ships in the German cruise ship fleet, is docking today at Doha Port, so that tourists from Germany and many other nations can discover the beautiful city of Doha and its cultural treasures," the envoy said.
"Moreover, I understand that TUI and other German cruise companies will be sending their ships during the World Cup 2022 to the fantastic new Doha Cruise Terminal, creating a special 'football staycation' experience for tourists from all over the world," he said.
With a length of 293 metres and width of 35 metres, Mein Schiff 4 is one of the world's newest cruise ships. It was built in 2014 and began its first trip in June 2015. The ship consists of 15 decks. Passengers on board can enjoy a variety of dining options and restaurants, a 3-level theatre, a basketball court, a kids club and a pool deck containing one of the longest pools on a cruise ship.
