MANILA: A Philippine communist rebel leader allegedly involved in the killing of colleagues considered government spies was arrested on Thursday, the military and police said.
Vicente Ladlad, a member of the central committee of the rebel Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP), and two associates were apprehended before dawn in a safehouse in the Manila suburb of Quezon City.
Various high-powered firearms, hand grenades and ammunition were seized from the safehouse, national police chief director general Oscar Albayalde said.
"Ladlad is known for his involvement in multiple murder cases for the purging of communist members tagged by the CPP leadership as alleged government spies in the organisation," said military spokesman colonel Noel Detoyato. (DPA)
