The Amir HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al Thani and Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte on Tuesday discussed bilateral relations and the ways of promoting them in all fields, especially in energy, economy, education, health, culture and investment.
During the working lunch hosted by the Italian PM at Villa Doria Pamphili in Rome, the two sides discussed a number of regional and international issues, especially the Gulf crisis and Italy's stance that calls for resolving the issue through dialogue and diplomatic means.
In addition, they reviewed the international efforts, in particular the Italian and Qatari efforts, to help maintain security and stability in Libya. The Italian Prime Minister praised the role of Qatar in this regard.
Later, the Amir and the Italian PM witnessed the signing of two cooperation agreements and a number of memoranda of understanding (MoUs) between the governments of the two countries.
An agreement on scientific and educational cooperation between Qatar University and Sapienza University of Rome was also signed. The agreement aims at exchange of information, experiences and lecturers, as well as joint implementation of scientific projects, especially through interaction in joint meetings and courses.
The two sides also signed a scientific cooperation agreement between Qatar Foundation and Sapienza University of Rome to consolidate and promote cooperation in the educational and scientific fields.
An MoU for cooperation in youth and sports was signed. The MoU aims at enhancing communication and active participation of youth, besides supporting volunteering and training opportunities.
Another MoU for cooperation in the fields of healthcare services, biomedical research, pharmaceutical products and modern medical equipment was also signed. The two sides also signed an MoU on food security and cooperation in agriculture and agro-food industries.
Later in the evening, the Amir also paid a visit to the Italian Chamber of Deputies in Rome.
Earlier in the day, the Amir visited the headquarters of the municipality of Rome. The Amir was greeted upon arrival by Mayor Virginia Raggi and a number of officials, where they reviewed areas of cooperation between Qatar and Italy and ways of deepening friendly relations.
