The 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar will be exceptional and will leave a positive impact not only in Qatar or the region but also around the world, Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy (SC) Secretary-General Hassan al Thawadi has said.
Thawadi said the mega sporting event would redefine future hosting standards as a major platform for development.
In a statement on the start of the countdown for 2022 FIFA World Cup, Thawadi said,"In four years Qatar will host hundreds of thousands of visitors and fans from around the world, alongside billions who will be watching 28 days of the competition. They will be watching the first FIFA World Cup taking place in the Arab world and second in the continent after the 2002 FIFA World cup in South Korea and Japan."
The 2022 FIFA World Cup will be held between November 21 and December 18, for the first time during winter.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino said Qatar World Cup"is extremely important, not only for Qatar but for the whole region, a region that has a passion for football and is investing a lot in the game. This World Cup is a unique opportunity, a chance to show the world what this region can offer; for football, but also for anybody in the world to come and visit a beautiful place, learn about a new culture and meet new people".
