Baghdad: At least 40 Islamic State militants are dead after Iraq launched airstrikes into Syria, Baghdad reported on Tuesday, the latest in a series of air attacks by Iraqi forces against the war-torn country.
The Iraqi army said in a statement that F-16 fighter warplanes targeted Islamic State positions in two areas in Syria's eastern province of Deir al-Zour, on the border with Iraq.
The sites for the airstrikes were chosen based on intelligence. They left at least 40 militants dead and led to the destruction of an arms depot and a headquarters used by the militants, it added. (AFP)
