THE fifth edition of Qatar British Festival will begin in Doha on November 27 with a wide variety of programmes covering culture, sports, education and business fields.
Announcing this at a press conference in Doha on Tuesday, the British Ambassador to Qatar HE Ajay Sharma said:"I am delighted that we are bringing the Qatar British Festival back for its fifth year. This is an important demonstration of the strong ties between the UK and Qatar, and allows us to showcase our cultural partnership. I look forward to the varied events we have this year."
The festival, being organised in association with Katara Cultural Village Foundation and British Council, will feature 20 live events, including cultural and creative activities, panel discussions, sports and education events as well as business sessions. A Guinness Book of World Records artwork will be the highlight of the festival this year.
General Manager of Katara Dr Khalid bin Ibrahim al Sulaiti said that the festival aims at celebrating ties between the UK and Qatar while building on the existing partnership in art and culture between the two countries and promoting an awareness and appreciation of each country's cultural, achievements and heritage.
The festival will also include events and projects in public art, film and music, UK alumni National Award, sports with opportunities to explore the historical links between Qatar and the UK.
Director of British Council Sam Ayton said,"Through this festival, we aim to connect the audience in Qatar with some of the best contemporary British arts, while helping families discover the fun side of culture and learn something new".
More than 50,000 people are expected to attend the festival that will conclude on December 12.
This year the festival is being held in collaboration with a number of new partners including Qatar National Library, Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy, Ministry of Municipality and Environment, Msheireb Museums, University College London in Qatar, Qatar University, Qatar Financial Centre and Doha Film Institute.
The other partners include Katara, Souq Waqif, Qatar Stars League, Qatar Museums, Qatar Music Academy, HSBC Bank Middle East Limited Qatar, Travelex, Sherborne Qatar, Institute of Civil Engineers, Qatar Airways, DNA Records, Katara Studios, Music Square Fifty One East, FNAC Qatar, Doha Bank, Alfardan Automobiles, Olympic Stars, St Regis Hotel and iloveqatar.net.
