Syria's history will be on display at Qatar National Library's upcoming exhibition, covering from 1918 to 1946, when France was a controlling power in the area.
The exhibition will also explore France's influence on Syria's cultural heritage.
Being organised in cooperation with the Museum of Islamic Art, the exhibition is entitled 'Syria Under the French Mandate: 1918 1946.' It will be opened on November 23 at a public ceremony taking place at the Library at 4pm.
"The French mandate in Syria is an important period of the country's recent history, during which the region witnessed profound cultural and social changes," said Dr Sohair Wastawy, executive director of Qatar National Library."We are delighted to partner with the Museum of Islamic Art to bring this exhibition to the people of Qatar, which presents a unique learning opportunity for researchers, historians and members of the public.'
The exhibition presents political events such as the signing of treaties and subsequent developments in the region during the given period. Featuring 40 items from the Library's Heritage Collection and from cultural institutions in France, the exhibition includes historical documents and images, printed books and photographs.
The 'Syria Under the French Mandate: 1918 1946' exhibition will run until April 30, 2019. It will take place in parallel with the 'Syria Matters' exhibition being organised by the Museum of Islamic Art, which also explores Syria's rich cultural heritage.
