Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman al Thani has said the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and its secretary-general are powerless now.
“The regional alliance has been undermined by the [Gulf] crisis,” Sheikh Mohammed said at the Doha Forum. “Therefore the alliance that existed needs to be reshaped and redesigned to ensure future stability and security of the region,” he said, pointing out that the GCC has ‘no teeth’ to resolve any dispute.
“They have mechanisms in place and never trigger them [to hold people accountable] because some countries believe they are beyond accountability. So, we need to make sure all the rules we are submitting to are binding on everyone in this region,” he said.
“Everyone now knows that the Gulf crisis is unfounded and based on lies and fabrication of news,” he added. (TNN)
