The Primary Health Care Corporation in Qatar (PHCC) has introduced community-based family planning programmes to bring family planning information and methods to women in the communities where they live and work.
The PHCC, along with Sidra and Hamad Medical Corporation, adopted a collaborative approach in November to enhance family planning options and community-based services in Qatar. An initial twenty physicians from the PHCC were given training to become skilled in the use of contraception and intrauterine device insertion.
A two-day comprehensive course on maternity by the PHCC Workforce Development and Training Directorate was provided by family planning experts from SIDRA and Hamad Medical Corporation. The course followed a competency and skills assessment undertaken by 20 physicians based in Qatar.

Dr Salwa Mohad Abuyaqoub, Senior Consultant Obstetrics/Gynecology, said, “It’s my pleasure to provide help and develop any course or workshop which will add value in training. The success of this initiative came from the teamwork between the PHCC, WWRC and Sidra”.
Professor Justin, Executive Chair - Women’s Services Clinical Management Group, Sidra Hospital, said: “The success of the first family planning training programme in Qatar was due to a joint venture between WWRC, Sidra and the PHCC. We are very delighted to be part of this initiative.”
