The Indian Association of Bihar and Jharkhand (IABJ) organised a New Year celebration for expatriates from the country at Onaizah Park 65 in Doha on Friday.
Urging expats from the two Indian states to join IABJ, its president Sheikh Tanwir Ahmad said the organisation would provide all support to them in times of duress.
IABJ was founded by expats from the Indian states of Bihar and Jharkhand in Qatar and is affiliated to the Indian Cultural Center (ICC) under the aegis of Embassy of India in Qatar. The IABJ is a sociocultural non-profit organisation functioning in Qatar for the welfare of the Indian community, particularly those from Bihar and Jharkhand.
IABJ celebrates ‘Bihar Divas’ (Bihar Day) every year in Doha, providing a platform for people from the two states to come together and celebrate.
The New Year celebration on Friday started with Quran recitation by master Jamal Nasir, following which event coordinator Afzal Nasir walked the community members through the day’s programmes.
IABJ also held a farewell for its Vice Chairman Safiruzzama Ajazi, who was leaving Qatar for good, on the occasion. A memento and a scarf was presented to Ajazi by IABJ’s President Sheikh Tanwir Ahmad.
IABJ’s Welfare Secretary Irfan Hasan Ansari and Joint GS Imtiyaz Ahmed were given certificates of appreciation for excellence in their contributions to the Indian Association of Bihar and Jharkhand. IABJ’s Sports Secretary Nasim Khan conducted a quiz competition for children and families.
