Minister of Culture and Sports HE Salah bin Ghanem al Ali and Qatar Motor and Motorcycle Federation
President Khalid Ahmed al Mannai led the grand welcome accorded to Nasser bin Saleh al Attiyah
upon his arrival at the Hamad International Airport in Doha on Saturday after bagging the Dakar rally
title for a record third time, in Peru. “My third victory in the Dakar Rally signifies the resilience Qatar
has despite being under seige by neighbours,” Attiyah said soon after his arrival back home. Attiyah
and his French co-driver Matthieu Baumel crushed an elite field, which included 13-time Dakar Rally
winner Stephane Peterhansel, two-time winner and defending champion Carlos Sainz and nine-time
World Rally Championship winner Sebastien Loeb, to win the title of the ultimate test of man and
machine on Thursday.
