Qatar SC and Al Duhail completed the QSL Cup semi-final line-up after comfortable victories over Al Sadd and Al Khor respectively in the second set of quarter-finals at the Al Sadd Stadium on Saturday.
Al Kharaitiyat had beaten Al Rayyan 3-2 and reigning champions Al Gharafa blanked Al Ahli 1-0 in Friday’s quarter-finals to book their berths in the semi-finals.
The semi-finals fixtures will be Al Kharaitiyat vs Al Gharafa and Qatar SC vs Al Duhail in the semi-finals scheduled for 26th January.
Qatar SC 2 Al Sadd 0
Playing aggressive football, Qatar SC upset Al Sadd 2-0 to reach the QSL Cup semi-finals.
Ali Said Al Mohannadi fired a goal once in each half as Qatar SC wrapped up a dominant performance against Al Sadd, coached by Portuguese Jesualdo Ferreira.
Ali Said, who found the net in the sixth and 58th minutes, proved to be a thorn in Al Sadd’s back line for most part of the match.
Qatar SC, coached by Argentinian Sergio Batista, came into the game after topping Group A with three wins from five matches.
Al Sadd, on the other hand, were playing in the last-eight after finishing fourth in Group B with just one win from five games.
Al Duhail 5 Al Khor 1
Al Duhail eased past Al Khor 5-1 in the last quarterfinal of the QSL Cup.
Fahad Al Bayati opened the scoring for Al Duhail in the sixth minute.
Al Khor equalised through Said Brahmi in the 23rd minute.
Substitute Nasser Al Yazidi doubled Al Duhail’s lead in the 56th. Five minutes later, he scored again with a close-range flick that easily beat Al Khor keeper Baba Djibril.
With momentum on their side, it was not long before Al Duhail, coached by their former player Madjid Bougherra, jumped to a 4-1 cushion, thanks to star Moroccan striker Yousef El Arabi in the 72nd minute.
In injury time, Al Yazidi drilled one past keeper Djibril from an acute angle to complete his hat-trick and Al Duhail’s big win (90+2).
Al Duhail came into the quarter-finals with two wins from five matches, whereas Al Khor had three victories to their credit.
