Tel Aviv: Almost five decades after diplomatic relations broke down between Israel and Chad, the leaders of the two countries announced Sunday that they are officially renewing ties. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Chadian President Idris Deby made the joint declaration following a meeting in N’Djamena. This was the purpose of Netanyahu’s visit, which came following Deby’s visit to Israel in November. Diplomatic relations between Israel and Chad, broke down in 1972. (dpa)
