Nepal has entered into advanced stages of talks to secure Qatari investments in aviation and power projects worth $3 billion, the country’s top diplomat in Doha has said.
In an exclusive interview with Qatar Tribune, Nepal’s ambassador to Qatar HE Ramesh Prasad Koirala said Qatari entities like Qatar Airways and Nebras Power have shown great interest in investing in Nijgadh International Airport and West SETI Hydropower projects respectively of Nepal.
Announcement of final agreements between Qatar and Nepal on both the projects will be made during the visit of Nepal’s Prime Minister Khadga Prasad Oli to Doha expected this year.
While Nijgadh International Airport project is worth $2 billion, the West SETI Hydropower project requires investments worth $1 billion.
“We have entered into talks with Qatar Airways as it is financially capable to invest and also has the expertise to build and mange a world-class Hamad International Airport in Doha. The talks are going in the right direction and a final decision on investment and other details will be announced soon,” he said.
Providing details about the project, he said, “Nijgadh International Airport is a proposed airport development project located in Kolhavi municipality of Nepal. The airport is intended to relieve expected capacity restraints at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu.”
