The Ministry of Finance (MoF) on Monday invited Qatari and international companies to take part in the Qatar public- private partnership (PPP) schools development programme to build 45 government schools in the country.
According to the invite, the Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Education and Higher Education and the Public Works Authority (Ashghal) are in the process of implementing PPP model to build 45 government schools in Qatar.
The ministry has invited local and international companies from the private sector to take part in a workshop on January 28 where details of the projects will be provided to participating companies.
According to the ministry, the schools development programme based on the PPP model are divided into six packages, which will be offered to the private sector at successive intervals.
The package one consists of 6-8 schools and will be announced to the private sector in the first quarter of 2019, the ministry said.
The PPP projects include the design, build, finance, operate, maintain and transfer of schools’ ownership.
Qatar Chamber, the representative body of private sector companies in Qatar, and the Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoCI) will also take part in the schools development programme.
The MoCI had earlier announced that Qatar will establish a number of schools and hospitals under the PPP model.
The government had also allocated several plots of land for building hospitals and schools in partnership with private sector companies.
Some of the PPP projects launched earlier especially the four logistics parks have yielded positive results and their initial success has paved way for the launch of many such projects, the ministry said.
“The private sector has a vital role to play in Qatar’s bid to diversify its economy from the hydrocarbon sector. The government is working to offer many projects under the PPP model,” a senior official of the ministry said.
