Qatar Petroleum and its partners, led by Total, have announced a significant gas condensate discovery in the Brulpadda prospects, located in Block 11B/12B in the Outeniqua Basin, 175 kms off the southern coast of South Africa.
The Brulpadda well encountered a gas condensate pay in Lower Cretaceous reservoirs. Following the success of the main objective, the well was deepened to a final depth of 3,633 metres and has also been successful in the Brulpadda-deep prospect.
Minister of State for Energy Affairs and President & CEO of Qatar Petroleum HE Saad Sherida al Kaabi, said, “We are pleased to announce the Brulpadda discovery as the first discovery in Qatar Petroleum’s international exploration ventures.”
“This achievement is an important milestone that reflects the soundness of our strategy, in which international exploration forms an important pillar that will enable Qatar Petroleum to grow and expand our international footprint,” he said.
Kaabi added, “I would like to congratulate our partners, and thank Total for the outstanding performance that led to this important discovery.”
This discovery has opened up new prospects in South Africa where Qatar Petroleum and its partners are well positioned to test other prospects on the same block.
