US Olympic medalist Ibtihaj Muhammad will be visiting Qatar on the occasion of National Sport Day, it was announced by the Government Communications Office (GCO).
Ibtihaj is an accomplished athlete, entrepreneur, activist and speaker, whose influence transcends the world of sport. She is a leading figure in the global discussion on gender equality and diversity, issues which Qatar has promoted in the international community and continues to set the highest standards for in the region. Ibtihaj’s passion for inclusion through sport has united communities around the world.
“We look forward to sharing Qatar’s unique culture and hospitality with Ibtihaj. During her stay in Qatar, she will be taking part in several Sport Day activities, including a visit to the Aspire Academy to participate in fencing practice with local students, and cycling as part of Qatar Foundation’s events.
“Ibtihaj will also participate in a discussion at Qatar National Library about her work to empower young women through sport,” a GCO statement said.
“Qatari women have participated in Olympic Games in sports such as swimming, athletics, shooting and table tennis, and Qatar is looking to continue and strengthen this legacy in part through important discussions with Ibtihaj,” the statement added.
