The Al Khor Highway, which will cut the travel time between Doha and Al Khor from 45 minutes to 18, will be incrementally opened to traffic by March, a Public Works Authority (Ashghal) official told Al Watan newspaper.
So far, 75 percent of the project has been completed, he added. The road will be fully open before the end of the 2019. Once open, the highway will also reduce the travel time between Lusail and Al Bayt stadiums to 15 minutes.
Tekfen Construction Company is implementing the project at a cost of QR7.5 billion.
The road has 34 kilometres of pedestrian and bicycle tracks of 6-metre width. It can allow passage of 10,000 vehicles per hour instead of the present 4,000 vehicles per hour. The route includes five tracks, two emergency tracks, a special rail track for Qatar Rail and 42 pedestrian and bicycle tunnels.
