The Ministry of Interior (MoI) has introduced its latest innovation, the ‘smart vest’, which protects workers from the hot weather and also alerts about their health status.
The smart vest was one of the four innovations by the MoI that won a gold medal at the 11th International Inventions Exhibition in the Middle East held in Kuwait recently.
The smart vest is equipped with sensors that measure the heartbeat of the worker and breath, which alert in case of emergencies. It is supplied by power through solar cells attached to it and cools down temperature automatically for the worker in hot weather.
The smart vest has been praised worldwide with the International Labour Organization (ILO) prescribing it for workers in all hot climate countries. It also proves Qatar’s keenness to provide the best conditions for labourers.
Speaking at a press conference at the Civil Defense Officers’ Club on Tuesday, Head of Security Technology at the Internal Security Forces (Lekhwiya) Major Ali Hassan al Rashed introduced the three other innovations by MoI which also got prizes at the IIF. These include a smart detective, a security robot and an automatic detector for explosives and drugs.
According to Rashed, the smart detective was developed by the MoI for the Hamad International Airport to detect criminals, suspects and illegal items. The innovation won the first prize at the IIF and also the Geneva International Innovations Prize.
Another innovation which got the gold medal at the IIF is a hi-tech face recognition robot that operates at the HIA and detects counterfeit currency and credit cards.
The automatic detector for explosives and drugs was awarded the silver medal at the IIF. The device can detect even small quantities of explosives and chemicals using a new technology of radiation.
