Al Sadd coach Jesualdo Ferreira says his players are ready to give 100 percent as they seek their first league title since the 2012/13 season. With four games left to play, the Portuguese stressed that all games until the final day will be played as a final.
Speaking to the media ahead of their clash against Al Sailiya, Ferreira said, “We have a final awaiting us. It will be crucial for us as we will be facing a strong team that is looking to continue in the top four. We are ready to face them and our secret of success will be concentration throughout the 90 minutes.”
“Al Sailiya are a tough side. Our goal is to win and the players have a certain amount of responsibility. They have the ability to overcome the odds. We play every game to win and fight till the last minute,” he added.
The Wolves have been without captain Xavi Hernandez due to injury but the Spain legend may be available for the last stages of the league.
“Our captain Xavi may be available to play in this game, having confirmed his physical readiness.”
Al Sadd were engaged in the Asian Champions League in the last two weeks, a competition where the Wolves lost to Al Ahli and only a last minute Bounedejah goal sealed victory over Persepolis of Iran. But Ferreira doesn’t mind the rush of games.
“Al Sailiya did not play for two weeks and we played two important games. After the victory against Persepolis, we are very excited to win.
“We compete in tournaments like the AFC Champions League with enthusiasm. We have the players to deliver the goods,” said Ferreira.
Meanwhile for Al Sailiya, Al Rayyan’s win on Friday over Al Khor moved the Lions two points ahead of Sami Trabelsi’s men in third, top four is the goal for the Peregrines this season.
Assistant coach Ameen Farikha said, “This is a very important game for both teams, especially since this is a contest between sides that are in the top four. Al Sadd are on top of the table and we are third. We seek a positive result that will enable us to stay in the top four.”
In the other game on Saturday, Al Duhail will visit Umm Salal hoping to bounce back from their 3-1 humbling at the hands of Al Hilal in the Asian Champions League.
The reigning QNB Stars League champions are four points behind Al Sadd and coach Rui Faria believes there’s still more to fight for.
“We are still in the battle for the title and we hope to have a positive result against Umm Salal. The team has to be ready for this and we know exactly how to play after the AFC Champions League engagement,” Faria said.
“The league has not yet been decided and there is hope. We must fight and should not give up. Umm Salal is an organised team,” added the former Jose Mourinho assistant.
