Stenden University of Applied Sciences-Qatar (SUAS-Q) and its alumni association organised a cleaning drive on the Sealine Beach in Mesaieed.
The event was held as part of the university’s Corporate Social Responsibility activities, in coordination with the Environmental Protection Reserves & Wildlife Department at the Ministry of Municipality and Environment, which provided additional support to the organisation for the clean-up.
The aim of the event was to create greater community awareness of the need to protect and preserve the natural environment and keep coastal habitat safe and trash-free. The event also aimed to educate residents and visitors about environmental protection, and to lessen certain behaviours that cause environmental pollution.
SUAS-Q students, staff members and alumni volunteered in the coastal clean-up. They spent the day removing waste material from the beach and perceived this activity as an opportunity to socialise, contribute to the conservation of the environment and have fun.
“Stenden Qatar is the only university in the country which offers internationally-accredited academic degrees in Tourism Management. One of our priorities as an institution is to educate the community members about the importance of tourism, while helping them preserve the natural resources in the country for the use of future generations,” said Dr Ivan Ninov, executive dean of SUAS-Q.
“The SUAS-Q Alumni Association was also involved in the organisation of a ‘Plant a Tree’ event last year, which was part of the university’s CSR activities to save the environment and promote healthy living and sustainable development,” said Faruk Mohammad Azad, president of SUAS-Q Alumni Association.
