The new Hamad General Hospital Trauma and Emergency Department project has been completed and it is being handed over to the Ministry of Public Health, the Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has announced.
“With the completion of the project, the number of patients at the facility will increase four times as the vital project has 348 rooms offering various treatment options,” Eng al Hanof al Emadi of Ashghal said.
The project will feature short-stay rooms, a minor injury unit and hyperbaric chamber and trauma rooms. It also has a training and management services centre.
The new four-storey building has 250 rooms for screening and treatment of men and women that include diagnosis and treatment rooms, ENT clinics, ophthalmology, decontamination rooms, isolation rooms, triage and emergency assessment rooms, patient preparation and decontamination room.
The new building has 14 operating rooms for trauma, minor procedures, isolation and recovery.
It also has 23 rooms for diagnostic radiology of various types, as well as a hyperbaric chamber, medical services, a pharmacy and laboratories.
Ashghal has built a 798-storey multi-level parking lot and an emergency helipad to serve both the new operating theater building and the new accident and emergency building for Hamad Medical Hospital.
Emadi said Ashghal launched a project to develop and replace the current Trauma and Emergency Department at Hamad General Hospital in 2015 to construct a new building with a total area of 27,000 sqm and reconstruct and expand 3,000 sqm of the previous Emergency Department to cover a total area of 30,000 sqm.
These criteria were also set by Global Sustainability Assessment System (GSAS) since operational and architectural considerations were taken into account to accomplish a 3-star environmental level in terms of energy saving and preservation of environment.
Other features of the new building include solar energy for the purpose of in-house water heating, natural sunlight through panoramic roof windows, allowing sun light in to save electricity.
