The Embassy of Bangladesh in Doha celebrated the 99th birth anniversary of the Father of Nation of Bangladesh Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and National Children’s Day with an array of festivities on Sunday.
As part of the celebrations, Children in three age groups, including Qatari children from Dreama, participated in a drawing competition themed ‘Bangabandhu and Bangladesh’ held at the embassy on Saturday. The competition was part of embassy’s efforts to let the local children, along with the Bangladeshi children, know about Bangabandhu and Bangladesh.
Ambassador HE Ashud Ahmed and his spouse Rebeka Sultana distributed prizes for the winners and token prize for all participants. The ambassador presented Arabic translation of the book ‘Unfinished Memoire’ to two officials from the Dreama.
A video documentary on Bangabandhu was played in order for the children to know more about him. The children celebrated the 99th birth anniversary of Bangabandhu by cutting a cake.
On March 17, a discussion programme was held at the embassy as part of the celebrations. Special prayer (dua) was offered at the outset for the salvation of the departed souls of all martyrs, Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his family members who were martyred in 1975.
The messages from the president, prime minister, minister for foreign affairs and state minister for foreign affairs of Bangladesh were read out as a means to highlight the significance of the day.
HE Ashud Ahmed, in his speech, paid tribute to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman for his great contribution to the independence of Bangladesh. He told the gathering that Bangabandhu was a great leader with simplicity of a child. “He used to love children. The best way to celebrate his birth anniversary is to acquire the qualities of Bangabandhu and contribute to the building of Sonar Bangla (golden Bangladesh), a dream of Bangabandhu.”
