Opera Baron came up with a strong finish to win the Mesaimeer Cup, the feature event at the 36th Race Meeting at the Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club Racecourse’s dirt track on Wednesday. The six-year-old bay gelding of Khalifa bin Sheail al Kuwari, under the tutelage of Jassim Ghazali, clinched the 1,800m race by a slightly less than three lengths, with JP Guillambert astride. Topsy Turvy, ridden by Eduardo Pedroza, was second, slightly less than three lengths, while Shabbab was placed third. This was the second victory for the HH Sheikh Mohammed Bin Khalifa Al Thani Trophy winner in the season and 12th overall in 32 races. Rider Ronan Thomas, who earlier won four races in the day, guided Roman Legend to fifth place. Thomas clinched wins riding Diese, Almigam, Badda and Sealine.
