Qatar will open seven visa centres in India as part of its ‘Qatar Visa Centers (QVCs) abroad’ programme, the Ministry of Interior (MoI) has announced.
Director of Visa Support Services Department Major Abdullah Khalifa al Mohannadi said the new visa centres will be opened in the cities of Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kochi, Lucknow and Kolkata. The first one will be opened in Delhi on March 26. The second QVC will be opened in Mumbai on March 28, followed by Chennai, Hyderabad, Kochi, Lucknow and Kolkata.
All the seven QVCs in India will become operational by the end of April, he said.
Mohannadi said an employer must fulfil a procedure in order to employ expatriates from India by applying through MoI’s website.
“A new provision was added to the work contracts which provides the expatriate workers with the employer’s full details and contact number besides, a free Qatari SIM card to help them contact their employers upon arrival in Qatar,” Muhannadi explained.
He said the process is very simple and it saves time and effort both of the employer and the worker. The contracts will be translated into the language of the worker at the service centres so that the employee knows all the provisions.
Applicants can use the services including attestation and biometric enrolment at the seven QVCs. Facilities will also be in place for medical checkup, which is expected to reduce the risk of serious diseases being carried to Qatar.
Job-seekers, tourists and visitors from India will have to complete proceedings through the QVCs. Private and semi-government companies also need to bring employees from India through these centres.
Qatar opened the first QVC in Colombo, Sri Lanka, in October 2018. Similar centres are currently offering services in Dhaka in Bangladesh, and Islamabad and Karachi in Pakistan.
Mohannadi said the department is planning to open more QVCs in various countries. In the first phase of the project, the focus is on Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Pakistan, India, Nepal, Indonesia, Tunisia and the Philippines.
QVCs are set up and function with cooperation from the Ministry of Administrative Development, Labour and Social Affairs, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Public Health.
