Under the patronage of Prime Minister and Minister of Interior HE Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al Thani, Qatar University (QU) will host on Wednesday the 7th CSR Report and 3rd Exhibition under the theme of ‘Volunteering’, in partnership with QatarCSR Network.
The ceremony will honour HE Sheikha al Mahmoud, former minister of education, as CSR Person of the Year 2018 in recognition of her inspiring lifetime achievements throughout over 20 years of her career. The ceremony will also recognise Sheikha Noor al Thani and Dr Adnan Steitieh, in addition to a number of CSR leaders in Qatar, with the CSR innovation awards.
The annual event represents the largest academic/business forum and a leading academic platform showcasing CSR initiatives, in addition to developing the skills and discovering the capabilities of QU students. The CSR report is an academic research book with rich content highlighting major corporations’ achievements in the field of CSR and supporting their position locally and abroad through a digital archiving system according to the highest professional standards. Its outputs contribute to the consolidation of social responsibility in the Qatari culture and heritage.
The exhibition is a high-level platform that allows organisations to participate in an academic forum hosted by QU in order to enhance students’ awareness of CSR by creating an actual interaction with the public and private sectors and multinational institutions.
The new edition of the report included an academic research titled ‘Examining Employee’s Participation in Corporate Volunteering (CV) and Benefits for Companies: The Case of Qatar’. Results of the research suggested that employee participation in volunteering is related to the level of strategic integration of CV in companies, and invited managers in Qatari companies to consider CV as a systematic practice. Future researches will focus on examining the link between CV and long-term financial performance.
On the sideline of the exhibition, a CSR workshop will be held tackling the major issues of CSR conducted by Al Jazeera Media Institute, under the title ‘Social Responsibility of Media’.
QatarCSR Network is an academic platform established in 2007 that works in partnership with QU and adopts the national vision to strengthen Qatar’s international standing, a noble mission to provide equitable opportunities for all to participate positively in the society and promote best practices for business. The network also aims to encourage companies to improve the overall quality of their products, thereby providing them a status of good citizenship and bridging the knowledge gap between companies and CSR programmes.
