QATAR Fund for Development (QFFD) and Qatar Charity (QC) have signed an agreement with the World Food Programme (WFP) to support WFP’s humanitarian activities in Yemen.
The project worth around $2.945 million seeks to support populations suffering from food insecurity and ensuring their minimum nutritional requirements in Yemen’s urban and semi-urban areas and is expected to benefit more than 256, 000 people in various governorates
of Yemen.
The agreement was signed by the Ambassador of Qatar in Rome and Permanent Representative of Qatar to the United Nations agencies in Rome HE Abdulaziz bin Ahmed al Maliki on behalf of QFFD; Assistant Chief Executive Officer for International Operations and Partnerships at QC Faisal bin Rashid al Alfhidh; and David Beasley, executive director of WFP.
The agreement is part of the efforts of Qatar, through QFFD and QC,to respond to the humanitarian catastrophe caused by the ongoing conflict in Yemen, by supporting the World Food Programme in delivering essential humanitarian and basic needs in line with the assessment of Yemen humanitarian response plan for 2019.
“Today, we are proud of the strong and strategic partnerships between QFFD, QC and WFP. Qatar consistently advocates for addressing humanitarian needs and answering to the needs of people around the world, including refugees”, said Maliki.
He added: “I also commend the active role of the WFP in delivering food assistance to Yemen, where more than 20 million are suffering from food insecurity and half of the population is prone
to famine.”
QC’s official Alfhidh remarked: “This agreement demonstrates the strength of this strategic partnership and coordination between QC and QFFD and also reflects the scope of the growing partnership with the World Food Programme. It also reinforces our common humanitarian goal to help and protect people affected by crises around the world.”
For his part, David Beasley, executive director of WFP, praised the great efforts of Qatar in the field of humanitarian work across the world, especially in crisis areas, noting the distinctive role played by Qatar Fund for Development and Qatar Charity in this field.
